6One Engineering Delivering what matters, when needed

6One Engineering offers services and solutions focussed on optimising integrity management of pressure systems and structures.

We strive to be the trusted first-choice resource to our clients based on delivery of high quality services.

We provide integrated solutions and maximise value. From a project management single point of contact for technical elements and contractors, to confidence that your business needs are well understood, we minimise the burden on your company resources and maximise efficacy.

Integrity Management

We specialise in all elements of the risk-based inspection and fitness-for-service assessment processes, including non-destructive testing and inspection. We will provide the level of support best suited to your business needs and integrity management requirements.

Our approach is damage mechanism first. Likely and actual damage is considered throughout - from designing and implementing NDT campaigns, through developing and updating RBI assessments, to FFS assessments, and scoping remedial actions.

We assemble, or manage existing teams across the disciplines required. From understanding damage mechanisms, to developing or updating NDT and inspection practices and reporting, to discrete assessments of equipment or structures. We provide the required data in the right format for run/repair/re-rate/replace decisions.

Fitness-for-service Assessment

Our fitness-for-service assessment services range from establishing robust screening assessment procedures directly from NDT/inspection data and training your inspection staff or contractors; to advanced, complex assessments requiring finite element stress analysis or detailed modelling and analysis of damage.

Fitness-for-service assessments to:

  • ASME B31G Levels 0 to 3 for metal loss in pipelines and piping
  • API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 Levels 1 to 3 for all damage mechanisms in pressure equipment
  • BS 7910 for all damage mechanisms in pressure systems and structures
Risk-based Inspection

We are familiar with RBI practices and can support or manage data collection and updating of risk assessments. Not yet using RBI to manage and optimise NDT and inspection of your assets? We can implement an RBI system to focus your inspection resources and satisfy regulators and insurers.

Inspection Challenges

We're continually looking to push the frontiers of non-destructive testing technology and practices, and work with like-minded companies to offer solutions to inspection challenges.

Examples:

  • In-service storage tank floor scanning using a tethered robot
  • Sizing of metal loss in pipelines directly from guided wave ultrasonic test data
  • Pipeline and piping screening fitness-for-service assessments directly from guided wave ultrasonic test data
  • Marinised ultrasonic arrays for detecting and sizing fatigue cracks in mooring chain links
  • Effective tube inspection for heat exchanger bundles
  • Rapid corrosion mapping of pressure vessels and large diameter piping
  • In-service ultrasonic testing of high temperature piping

What inspection challenges do you face? Contact us with details and we'll propose a solution - from a bespoke procedure, equipment modifications for existing techniques, to a development and validation project.

Product Commercialisation

Commercialisation of products is a universal challenge. If you have great products that have been developed and proven in the laboratory, but have not gone on to become a commercial offering, you're not alone. Many organisations struggle to progress new products beyond Technology Readiness Levels* 4 or 5.

The four stage product commercialisation process:

1. Product Evaluation

  • Review potential products
  • Assign to relevant industry sectors and/or target markets
  • Establish current TRLs
  • Assess development plans
  • Conduct commercialisation assessment
  • Conduct objective option analysis to prioritise products

2. Market Evaluation

  • Interview propsective customers
  • Install / demonstrate prototype
  • Characterise attractiveness product, confirm market need and features that customers will require
  • Outcome: variations or features to include in final product

3. Product Refinement/Completion

  • Development plan to include requirements from the market evaluation
  • Intellectural property
  • Patent(s) and licence(s)
  • Trademark and/or copyright
  • Certification and accreditation, e.g. CE mark
  • Implementation-ready package, e.g. ruggedised, intrinsically safe
  • Market acceptance

Our experience is that product development cannot be isolated and managed separately from commercialisation. For a successful project, development budget and resources will be required, guided and managed by the commercialisation team.

4. Product Commercialisation

  • Strategy and implementation plan
  • Main elements of commercialisation are pricing, marketing and sales

* TRL 4 = Technology validated in laboratory | TRL 5 = Technology validated in relevant environment | Click here for the European Commission definitions of TRLs.

Support your R&D operations by establishing robust product commercialisation processes and drive the commercialisation of your most promising development projects.

Guidelines & Procedures

Effective and up-to-date corporate guidelines and procedures are essential elements in asset integrity management. They are of particular importance in the development of new and less experienced staff.

  • Guidelines
  • Specifications
  • Codes of practice
  • Procedures
  • Reporting templates

A well-written set of corporate documents, widely applied, improve compliance and reduce inconsistencies in approach and results.

We can support your operations by updating or writing corporate documents based on best practices and relevant international / national standards; tailored to applicable corporate and legislative requirements, operational circumstances, and resourcing realities.

Examples:

  • Guidelines for the selection of NDT techniques based on damage mechanism and component
  • Implementation of NDT, in particular advanced techniques
  • Data collection and reporting of NDT for fitness-for-service assessment decision making
  • Corrosion chemical management and optimisation

Condition Monitoring

Scoping, Implementing, Reporting

6One Engineering offers services to condition monitoring equipment manufacturers and to plant owner/operators. Our approach aims to maximise the effectiveness of condition monitoring systems, from damage mechanism revew and risk-based identification of monitoring locations, to installation of systems and reporting.

Pipeline Inspection and Assessment

Non-intrusive inspection, RBI and FFS

We have considerable experience in guided wave ultrasonic inspection of pipelines and piping. Our integrated approach includes manual and automated UT characterisation of guided wave indications and delivers screening fitness-for-service reports, highlighting areas for detailed assessment or repair.

Process Piping Inspection and Assessment

Non-intrusive inspection, RBI and FFS

Pipework is often not given the same level of focus as pressure vessels and can pose a high risk of failure. Understanding the damage mechanisms, using a range of NDT techniques and flexible assessment tools are crucial in effective piping systems integrity management.

Tank Inspection and Assessment

Full NDT, inspection, RBI and FFS

We offer a comprehensive storage tank assessment solution. From API 653 in-service / out-of-service inspections and in-service / out-of-service non-destructive testing, to risk-based inspection and fitness-for-service assessment. We'll take care of it all, or pick just the service(s) you require. In-service tank floor scanning? We've got a tool for that.
